2017 Jazz On The Green
This year’s annual Jazz On The Green event was attended by more than 300 people. It was a perfect fall evening at Historic Castle Green. We were pleased to be able to honor Reverend Donna Byrns, San Marino Community Church, and Wester Rooter & Plumbing for their service to Friends In Deed and beyond.  Music was provided by jazz musicians Gene Bertoncini and John Leftwich. Old friends and new friends mingled throughout the evening enjoying fantastic hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a silent auction. Thank you to everyone that attended and for all of your continuous support.

2017 First Annual End of Summer Celebration
As August came to a close, we held our first annual “End of Summer Celebration”. It was a time for Friends In Deed supporters, volunteers, staff, and board members to come together for a BBQ, music, and talk about future FID plans, programs, and more. The Knights of Columbus, from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, handled the BBQ duties. More than 70 people attended on a beautiful August summer evening.

2017 Circle of Friends Appreciation Dinner

On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, Connie Holguin, volunteer and supporter of The Women’s Room and Friends In Deed, opened up her home for a Circle of Friends Appreciation dinner.   It was a beautiful evening to say “thank you” to our Circle of Friends members and also to introduce some new people to the work of FID. A big thank you to our hostess Connie, FID Board Member Kathy Simpson, the FID Development Committee, FID staff, and attendees for creating a lovely evening of appreciation.

2017 Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast

More than 570 people attended the 44th Annual Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast. We were pleased to once again be working with Mayor Terry Tornek to bring the community together for a morning of community, breakfast, and fellowship. Rev. Marlene Pomeroy provided the Invocation and Blessing of Food. This year’s Keynote Speaker was John E. Kobara, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, California Community Foundation.  He spoke to the attendees on the theme of “Comforting the Afflicted and Afflicting the Comfortable” (the text of the speech can be found here).  The Eliot Arts Jazz Combo and Vocal Ensemble performed “America The Beautiful” and played music throughout the Breakfast.  The Breakfast finished with a Closing Prayer of All Faiths.
