For decades, the Assistance League of Pasadena has been quietly transforming lives through its many philanthropic programs. From providing school uniforms and supplies through Operation School Bell to delivering bears and comfort kits to children and adults in crisis, their mission is rooted in compassion for neighbors when they need it most.
In recent years, that spirit of generosity has extended even further, reaching the guests of The Women’s Room at Friends In Deed. Every month, members of the Assistance League prepare and deliver 320 beautifully assembled snack bags filled with nutritious items like tuna packs, applesauce, trail mix, granola bars, and more.
What began as a small, one-person effort has grown into a beloved chapter-wide project led by dedicated members like Cynthia, who shops each month to ensure every bag is thoughtfully stocked. “Sam’s Club knows me well,” she laughs.
The inspiration for the program came from a member who volunteered at Friends In Deed’s Bad Weather Shelter and noticed that guests at The Women’s Room often didn’t have food on weekends. The need was clear, and the Assistance League responded.
Today, the snack bag program has become an essential part of The Women’s Room community. Guests look forward to receiving them, and staff are deeply grateful for the kindness and support they represent.
The Assistance League’s generosity doesn’t stop there. This past year alone, they contributed over $100,000 in fire relief to support local organizations, including $14,000 to Friends In Deed for critical facility improvements. Their ongoing commitment, from supporting our Food Pantry to participating in our annual back-to-school drive, reminds us that compassion truly multiplies when shared.
Through every meal, kit, and kind gesture, the Assistance League of Pasadena continues to embody what it means to give care and comfort one thoughtful act at a time.
