In his early 20s, Jerry was already climbing the ranks in the restaurant industry. As a manager at a local Pasadena fast-food chain, he took pride in his work and the steady income it provided.
When the Eaton Fire struck, his home was spared, but his livelihood suffered. With fewer customers dining out, the restaurant’s revenue dropped sharply, and Jerry’s hours were cut to just two per week—barely enough to cover basic expenses. Eventually, he had no choice but to leave the job he had worked so hard to earn and seek new opportunities.
Jerry found another position and began training, but with limited hours during the transition, he quickly fell behind on rent. He turned to Friends In Deed’s Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance (EPRA) program for help. By covering his arrears and providing three months of rent support, EPRA gave Jerry the breathing room he needed to complete his training without the immediate threat of eviction. Through our Eaton Fire relief program, he also received a Target gift card to help with essentials.
Thanks to EPRA, Jerry could focus on rebuilding his stability and move forward with confidence: a reminder of the difference your support makes in the lives of young workers in our community facing unexpected hardships.
