Leading with Heart: A Director’s Commitment to The Women’s Room

For nearly a decade, Lindsey Reed, Director of The Women’s Room, has been a familiar and compassionate presence at Friends In Deed. What began as volunteering at the Bad Weather Shelter has evolved into a full-time role where she now leads a dedicated team of five, creating a safe, welcoming space for women experiencing homelessness.

“I was born and raised in Pasadena,” Lindsey reflects. “Thinking about our neighbors being out in the cold and rain compelled me to get involved. The more I got involved with Friends In Deed, the more I learned there were countless ways to help.”

Her path to nonprofit leadership wasn’t accidental. With a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in nonprofit leadership, and experience running a nonprofit flea market funding student scholarships for a local college, Lindsey always knew she wanted to serve her community. Yet, it is her lived experience of service and deep connection to those she serves that truly shapes her work. “Using my voice for people who don’t have one, and my skills to help those in need is what drives me,” she says.

At The Women’s Room, Lindsey brings a unique warmth and hospitality, treating the space the way she would welcome people in her own home. She designs experiences that promote self-care and wellbeing, creating a space where guests feel seen, valued, and supported. “I feel so grateful for our team,” she shares. “Everyone goes above and beyond to meet the needs of our guests, and together we continually find ways to make their day, and lives, better.”

Her story is a reminder that leadership in service is about heart, experience, and the joy of lifting others up.
