Somewhere behind that monster chard is Kevin, our Food Pantry Program Aide. Which begs the question: what are the students from @johnmuirhigh putting in the soil?! The plant enthusiasts on our staff are dying to know.

Freshly grown produce is always welcome in our Food Pantry. We distribute over 6,000 lbs every week! So, if you aren’t sure what to do with the extra fruits and veggies from your garden, bring them to the Food Pantry.

Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us that mental health is shaped by the experiences we carry every day.

At Friends In Deed, we see this up close. Whether someone is facing housing instability, food insecurity, or isolation, mental health is never separate from the challenges our neighbors navigate. We meet our clients with compassion and care across all five of our programs: the Bad Weather Shelter, Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance, Street Outreach and Housing, the Food Pantry, and The Women’s Room.

This month is a chance to show up for one another in small but meaningful ways. Reach out. Listen without judgment. Support the work happening in your community. Let those who are struggling know that they don’t have to do so alone. 💚

You never really know what someone is carrying.

One morning, Juliet, a Program Attendant at The Women’s Room, stopped by her favorite local coffee shop in Pasadena. As she chatted with the owner, she mentioned where she worked. His response surprised her.

He shared that he and his wife are deeply grateful for Friends In Deed. While they run a well-loved small business, they’ve also faced challenges, and his wife regularly visits our Food Pantry to help make ends meet.

It was a powerful reminder: the people who serve our community every day may also need support themselves.

At Friends In Deed, access to food and care isn’t about assumptions; it’s about meeting people where they are, with dignity and compassion.

Three carloads. 729 pounds. One incredible act of community care.

Cub Scout Pack 519 out of La Cañada showed us what generosity looks like in action. After going door-to-door in their neighborhoods, leaving behind flyers with our most-needed items, they returned a week later to collect donations from neighbors who stepped up in a big way.

The result? 729 pounds of shelf-stable food.

We’re so grateful to these young leaders (and their families!) for turning a simple idea into something truly impactful.

Thank you, Pack 519, for helping us keep our shelves stocked and our neighbors supported. 💫
